Candice Breitz (b. 1972) is a South African artist known for her video installations, photography, and multimedia works that explore identity, celebrity culture, media consumption, and collective memory. Born in Johannesburg, she studied at the University of the Witwatersrand and later at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Breitz gained international recognition for works that appropriate and re-edit popular film, television, and music footage to examine how mass media shapes personal and cultural identities. Her work has been exhibited widely in major museums and biennials around the world, including the Venice Biennale, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Tate Modern. She currently lives and works between Berlin and Johannesburg.
